I am torn on the whole facebook thing and I am considering cancelling my account. Not so much for Facebook itself but I feel that I am being pulled from one social networking model to the next. Next, I will be compelled to buy another smartphone and Twitter until I am enticed over to the next thing. It feels less like being on the rising tide that is social networking but rather like sheep being led to slaughter. We are losing agency - in our opinions and with how we interact with our friends. Even the "Twitter revolution" with the Iranian elections, I find that it used more as an appropriated claim to further lure people into "willful" obsequious while governments and corporations eavesdrop with impunity . Noam Chomsky anyone - ala Manufacturing Consent?
Paranoid? May'be yes but it seems that Facebook and others are tools that are being used without understanding the consequences. Tools are only as valid as the intent that uses them and it seems to me that in the marketplace - everything is suspect and intentions are unstated.
I find it funny
that conservatives fight these imaginary battles. There is the book of revelations and of course keep Christ in Christmas. Even on Facebook.
